About Avigail Hayoun
Avigail Hayoun is an American-born writer and artist living in Israel's Negev desert. She is the author of The Camel in the Forest, a memoir about moving to Israel and making a home in a place that has become central to her life and work.
A lifelong writer, Avigail writes essays, short stories, and reflections on life, place, identity, and the often unexpected details of the human experience. Her writing has also appeared in Messy Nessy Chic, a Paris-based online publication.
In recent years, she has also returned to a long-standing interest in visual art, working primarily in watercolor. Inspired by the landscapes, history, and everyday life of Israel, her paintings explore the colors and character of the places she calls home.
Avigail lives in the Negev with her husband and four children.
